The new Building, etrium Cologne having an effective area of 3.751 m² with its large Atrium was designed by Benthem Crouwel architects and built by HIBA Grundbesitz GmbH & Co. KG of Cologne in 2008. The Passive Building Standard is achieved through high energy efficiency and the use of modern energy saving technologies for heating, cooling and power.
The integrated design and realisation of the energy and climate concept, was accompanied by ifes through extensive thermal building and CFD simulation and analysis.
The „etrium“ is one of the first office buildings in Germany to be certified according to the DGNB Standard
The „etrium“ is one of the first office buildings in Germany to be certified according to the DGNB Standard and since April 2012 the company headquarters. The building was premiered with the Gold Cachet for sustainability according to the DGNB Standard and with 5 Stars, excellent, to the BREEAM DE Standard. The integrated design led to a primary energy consumption of less than 120 kWh/m²a for the building’s heating, power, cooling and domestic hot water. The building’s heat demand of less than 10 kWh/m²a can be compared to the energy equivalent of 1 Litre of fuel oil per square meter per annum. Through its certification, the building’s value is documented for rent and future sale and compared to uncertified buildings increased.
